Both teams were only able to manage a field goal in the first quarter of the game, sending it into the second quarter with the score tied 3-3. Mickey Guidry got LSU some more points when he completed a thirty-six yard touchdown pass to Tony Moss and the Tigers made two more field goal in the quarter, giving them a 16-3 lead at halftime. In the third quarter James Jackson delivered the ball to John Thomas for thirty-one yards as well as a touchdown, but they missed their extra point attempt. Later on Georgia responded to the Tigers’ next field goal with James Jackson’s seventy-four yard touchdown pass to Cassius Osborn. An interception set up Rodney Hampton’s fourteen yard touchdown carry to give the Bulldogs the lead, but the Tigers retook the lead with another touchdown and LSU held on to capture the 26-23 victory on the road over Georgia.
